It’s June, and the school year is rapidly coming to a close. This brings us to a crucial question–what gift do you get for your kids’ teachers??
For the Pinterest-inclined, there are thousands of photo-worthy ideas for end-of-year teacher gifts: cookie mixes in Mason jars; Starbucks cups full of pencils, and; hand-sewn gift card holders, to name a few. And these are all really adorable and well-meaning ideas. But what if, like me, you don’t have the time, skills, or inclination for these Insta-worthy gifts?
As a former teacher, I’m going to let you off the hook–a simple thank-you note and a Target gift card are just fine. Really.
When I was a teacher, I received lots of cute tchotchkes from my students, and I appreciated every one. But, to be honest, I started running out of room for all those gifts–how many apple notepads or pencil-holders does one woman need? But a Target gift card? That I can always use!
Take a few moments to write a sincere thank-you note to your child’s teacher–don’t worry, a Hallmark card is OK (although I will admit that I did make the cards for my daughter’s teacher this year). Slip your gift card inside and hand it to the teacher, knowing you are doing something that she will appreciate. In this case, it really is the thought that counts.
